Love your podcast. From your pictures, I can really feel your frustration and exhaustion! :) Congratulations to you for your perseverance. As dictionary.com says.. Perseverance is "steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., esp. in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement." You did it and you should be proud of yourself. I really enjoyed your topic and I am glad you can have the "conversations" you hare having with the librarian. Hopefully you can get her to "think" a bit about what you are saying. You may not win everyone over, but what you say may just start something..somewhere!
Gretchen, I don't need to get new glasses to see the importance of collaborative learning, but I do sometimes need new lenses, given that at times I do find it hard to let old beliefs go. GREAT picture!
Hi Gretchen, What a great podcast! Some librarians are invested in the traditional ways of learning since books are their world. Now, we are saying libraries are no longer needed if we can access a richness of learning on the Web and books are being digitized at a very rapid pace. The textbook model needs to go away. Students buy expensive books that are soon out of date due to edition changes. Then the publishers ship s zillion new books to college bookstores all over the country. Why not put all this content on the Web and update it easily. Why cut down millions of trees and burn fossils fuels to fill bookstore shelves. Books are increasingly being loaded into Blackboard and are richer than a textbook. Overcoming old models of learning is a slow process, but it's inevitable. I too love your pictures.
I am married with four grown children, all of whom I am terribly proud of, a grand baby on the way and two upcoming marriages. I have a Masters Degree in Education and plan on completing an additional 30 credits this summer. I enjoy many hobbies that keep me very busy and my purpose in life has always been my family.
